
MSPE EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE HOLDS FIRST 2007-2008 MEETING
MSPE's 2007-2008 Executive Committee met with Missouri's representative to the House of Delegates and the staff in Jefferson City on Friday, August 24, 2007 to conduct Society and Educational Foundation business. At the meeting the Executive Committee took the following actions:
- Applauded President Ron Kadane, P.E. for setting the year's priorities as an intensive chapter outreach campaign and state controlled dues invoicing and database management to produce accurate reporting.
- Reviewed and accepted statewide committee chairman appointments.
- Approved an updated organizational structure naming Executive Committee liaisons to the society's statewide committees, practice divisions and chapters.
- Finalized plans to hold the Chapter Leadership Workshop on September 18, 2007 in the MSPE office.
- Discussed highlights from the NSPE Annual Meeting held in Denver, Colorado which included MSPE member Kevin Skibiski, P.E. being installed as the NSPE Professional Engineers in Private Practice Chair, revisions to the NSPE Code of Ethics and approval of a "state affiliate" membership category for individuals not eligible for NSPE members.
- Elected to draft a letter responding to NSPE's request for repayment of funds sent to MSPE to cover the dues shortage resulting from NSPE's dues billing debacle in 2005-2006.
- Requested MSPE staff to contact states that are conducting their own dues invoicing to ascertain how they are covering their overhead expenses.
- Review and accepted the year end financial statements for both the society and its Educational Foundation.
- Agreed to send a Letter to the Editor of the Columbia Daily Tribune to clarify misleading statements about bidding vs.QBS for professional services.
- Appointed an Educational Foundation task force to determine a plan of action for retiring the building debt.
- Requested the Educational Foundation Investment Guidelines approved in 1998 be reviewed by MSPE's investment advisor for timeliness with today's financial market.
- Established a new Investment Oversight Policy for the Educational Foundation endowment funds.
- Scheduled the next Executive Committee meeting for Friday, October 12, 2007 in the MSPE office.
